US online travel sales rose nine per cent to $103bn during 2012 compared to the year before. According to comScore, air travel accounted for nearly two-thirds of all US travel spending last year. Of the total travel spend during 2012, 65 per cent went on air travel, 19 per cent went on hotel reservations, nine per cent on car rental, and five per cent on travel packages. Southwest Airlines topped the US airline sites with 20 per cent of page views, up slightly from the prior year. Delta Airlines ranked second with 15.5 per cent and United Airlines had 14.7 per cent.
