Virgin Atlantic is reportedly set to place an order for 12 A350-1000s worth around $4.3m as part of a fleet renewal strategy.

According to Bloomberg Business, Virgin Atlantic, which has yet to confirm any deal, is likely to purchase nine of the A350s directly from Airbus and take the other three aircraft on lease.

The A350s are expected to replace the UK carrier’s existing fleet of 747-400 aircraft, which account for the majority of Virgin Atlantic’s long-haul leisure operations.

In total, the airline operates a fleet of 40 Airbus and Boeing aircraft, with an additional 25 orders and options.
