Volga-Dnepr’s Freighter Transports Irkut MS-21

Volga-Dnepr Airlines has used one of its AN-124-100 freighters to transport a fuselage section for the new Irkut MS-21 Russian passenger aircraft. It was transported between the Russian cities of Irkutsk – where the metal fuselage was manufactured, and Zhukovsky – where the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute is located, on February 25. The fuselage section is 11.5 metres in length, 4.7 metres in width and 4.2 metres in height meaning that the gap between the AN-124-100 cargo hold’s contour was minimal and required the assistance of the freighter. In order to load the piece of fuselage a “special tackle” was developed by Volga-Dnepr and the Irkutsk Aviation Plant.
