Aerostar Plans New MRO Facility

Hangar could increase Airbus A320 family and Boeing 737 overhauls by up to 40%, Romanian MRO says.

Romanian MRO Aerostar plans to expand its capacity by build a new maintenance facility at Iasi International Airport.

The company has signed a 49-year lease agreement with local authorities for the new four-bay hangar, which is expected to begin operating in summer 2019.

Once built, Aerostar said overhauls of Airbus A320 family and Boeing 737 classic and new generation aircraft could increase by up to 40%.

The planned new facility is located around 130km north of Aerostar’s existing business operations at Bacau, where it operates two aircraft hangars.

Ovidiu Buhai, director, aviation maintenance and upgrade division, singled out increasing demand on the A320neo aircraft type, with Aerostar set to overhaul its first of the variant in April 2018.
