American Selects Airbus’ ROPS For A320 Fleet

American Airlines has chosen to adopt Airbus’ ‘Runway Overrun Prevention System’ (ROPS) on all its A320-family aircraft. The cockpit technology aims to increase pilots’ situational awareness during landing, reduce exposure to runway excursion risk and provide active protection. ROPS, which received European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approval in 2009, is also part of the A350’s basic configuration and is in service on around 70 per cent of the A380 fleet.
