The FAA has approved Airborne Maintenance and Engineering Services (AMES) to perform maintenance on widebody aircraft, after granting the MRO a Class 4 airframe rating, which covers “all large metal aircraft”.

The extension to AMES’ Part-145 certification comes seven months after the MRO opened a new 9,755m2 maintenance hangar in Wilimington, Ohio, which is capable of holding a 777-sized aircraft.

AMES operates three MRO hangars and a component repair facility, and currently provides line and heavy maintenance services on A320, 727, 737, 757, 767, DC-8, DC-9 and MD-80 aircraft.
