Cheung Kong Holdings is reportedly in discussions to form a joint venture (JV) with Mitsubishi Corp’s MC Aviation Partners to enter into the aircraft leasing market.

Owned by Li Ka-shing, reputedly Asia’s richest man, Cheung Kong is a multinational conglomerate involved in property, retail, infrastructure, energy and telecoms.

The firm is already engaged in a $5bn bid for a fleet of 100 aircraft being sold by lessor AWAS Aviation, as it looks to take advantage of the growing trend of airlines leasing new aircraft, rather than buying them outright.
