Crane Aerospace & Electronics’ SmartStem wireless tyre pressure monitor has received supplemental type certification (STC) from Transport Canada for use on Bombardier’s CRJ aircraft.
The SmartStem system involves the replacement of standard fill valves with tyre pressure sensors, which enables engineers to monitor and record tyre pressure using a wireless reader.
The STC covers the use of the SmartStem on Challenger, Global and CRJ aircraft registered in Canada.
The FAA has also expanded its STC for the SmartStem enabling it to be used on an additional eight Bombardier aircraft.
The system already has approval for use on the 737NG, 747-400, 777 and 787.
