Ethiopian Airlines has signed a sale and leaseback agreement with AWAS for two new 737-800s. The two aircraft, the first of which was delivered today (May 30) belong to the airline’s existing order with Boeing. The second will be delivered in 2014. Tewolde Gebremariam, CEO of Ethiopian said AWAS “has come to us with a timely and efficient solution to finance these two modern aircraft for our growing fleet”. AWAS currently has a fleet of more than 250 aircraft leased to over 90 customers. It also has a further 60 aircraft on order.
