FAA Approves First Iridium Satcom System

The US regulator has issued a supplemental type certificate (STC) for Avionica’s satLINK MAX, the first satellite communications system for aircraft based on technology made from iridium.

The US regulator has issued a supplemental type certificate (STC) for Avionica’s satLINK MAX, the first satellite communications system for aircraft based on technology made from iridium.

The data transfer system uses the metal in four transceivers that provide multiple voice and data channels simultaneously using a single antenna.

The STC covers installation of the satLINK MAX on 777s and approvals for other aircraft are pending, confirmed Avionica.
