Brazilian low-cost carrier GOL Airlines has placed an order with Aviation Partners Boeing (APB) for split scimitar winglets for 15 of its 737-800 aircraft.

Seattle-based APB, which has spent five years developing the winglets, said they use the existing blended winglet structure, but now have new features including aerodynamic scimitar tips and a large ventral strake.

Christopher Stafford, director of sales and marketing at APB, said: “GOL will now be able to take advantage of a significant reduction in fuel requirements as well as an enhanced payload and range capability with the split scimitar winglets system.”
