By 2020 there will be more aircraft lessors in the US, according to members of ISTAT.

A poll of delegates at the ISTAT Americas event this week revealed that 71 per cent agreed that there would be at least one more publically-listed aircraft leasing company in the US, with 37 per cent stating that they thought there would be at least three more than the current five.

The delegates also confirmed that they thought consolidation of the market was likely with 49 per cent predicting that Air Lease Corp would be most likely to make acquisitions and Avolon was the lessor most likely to be bought.

Speaking at the event Jeff Knittel president of lessor CIT said that he though the aircraft leasing industry was in “the best position” it has been for 30 years.

However, Norman Liu CEO of GECAS argued that demand was “so so” owing to the economy and airline consolidation.
