Industry Prepares For New Asian Lessors

A number of new Asian leasing companies will enter the market over the next two to three years, Robert Martin, CEO of BOC Aviation, predicted at the International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading (ISTAT). He believes these new players will come from China and Japan and that after a period of two to three years’ growth, there will be some consolidation. “I don't see the centre of gravity moving entirely to Asia,” Peter Barrett, CEO of SMBC Aviation commented, but he added that Asian financiers are taking “appropriate measures” to step into the financing space and that the move is “permanent and admirable.” Martin believes we will continue to see large Asian financial players, but that this will be limited to the financial centres of Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore.
