Lufthansa Technik (LHT) has started work to construct a new 20,000m2 MRO facility in Puerto Rico.

The hangar at Rafael Hernández International Airport will provide base maintenance services for A320 family aircraft across five lines.

Once complete, the site will initially operate two lines for A320 C and D checks. The German MRO’s first customers at the facility will be US low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines from July 2015 with JetBlue to follow in November.

LHT said the new facility will expand its access to Latin America and bring it closer to existing and potential customers.
