LHT Hits A320 Noise Reduction Milestone

Lufthansa Technik said it will equip the 100th Lufthansa-operated A320 with sound-reducing vortex generators in “the next few weeks”.

The components, which are placed on the underside of an aircraft’s wings, are said to help reduce the overall noise level of an aircraft when landing by up to four decibels between 10km and 17km away from the airport.

The equipment has so far been fitted on Lufthansa’s fleet of A320 family aircraft and the carrier said it intends to fit a total of 157 A320s with them.

The German airline, which claims to be the first in the world to use the noise reduction measures, said this number will eventually rise to more than 200 aircraft as it awaits the delivery of more A320s.
