US low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines has signed an eight-year contract with Lockheed Martin Commercial Engine Solutions (LMCES) for MRO services on its fleet of CFM56-5 engines powering its Airbus A319s and A320ceo aircraft.

Under the terms of the agreement, LMCES will carry out the services at its facility in Montreal beginning from now and continuing through to 2023.

Denver-headquartered Frontier said it selected LMCES based on previous work the firm had carried out on some of its other engines at the Montreal centre, where it offers MRO and testing services as well as parts and component repairs for five different commercial engines.

Charles Bouchard, chief executive of Lockheed Martin Canada, said: "This contract is great news for the job stability that it creates in the local aerospace industry in the Montréal Aerospace cluster and a testament to the highly skilled technicians who expertly perform such complex maintenance in this competitive market."
