Lufthansa Technik (LHT) and GE Aviation have announced the formation of a new joint venture in Poland specializing in repair services for the GEnx-2B and GE9X engines.
The two firms will invest around €250 million ($267 million) in the XEOS joint venture, which will be a 350,000m2 engine repair shop based in the Legnica Special Economic Zone (LSEZ) in Sroda Slaska located in Poland’s western region.
The service center will begin operating in September 2018 and will also lead to the creation of around technical 500 jobs once at full capacity, LHT says.
Bernhard Krueger-Sprengel, senior vice-president of engine services at Germany-headquartered Lufthansa Technik, said the establishment of the XEOS engine shop with GE was “a major milestone in LHT’s growth strategy.”
The memorandum of understanding for the new facility was originally signed by both parties at the 2015 Paris Air Show.
Following a selection process, they said the site at LSEZ was chosen due to a combination of development potential, economic competitiveness and support from Poland’s government.
