Lufthansa Technik, which has 30 companies in its portfolio, broke ground on its latest--in Aquadilla, Puerto Rico.
Spirit Airlines will be the first customer--scheduled for July 2015--and JetBlue has committed Airbus A320s to the site, as well.
The MRO already has hired 50 people and is training them in Puerto Rico, as well as at Lufthansa Technik Budapest and at Shannon Aerospace in Ireland.
The new facility will feature five lines of maintenance for overhauls and painting in this 215,000 sq. ft. facility.
Elmar Lutter, CEO of LHT Puerto Rico, also ran the company's Budapest site so he's very familiar with start-ups.
