Japanese firm Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has announced the creation of a joint venture with Shinwa Industry to carry out surface treatment and painting of commercial aircraft parts for the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) as well as components for Boeing aircraft.

The JV will operate as Matsusaka Aircraft Parts Manufacturing and will launch production in March 2018.

Shinwa, a manufacturer of metallic and resin parts for the automotive industry, will hold a 51 per cent stake while the remainder will be controlled by MHI.

In a joint statement released on Friday (June 10), the parties said the JV will help grow their emphasis on the MRJ project while aiding development of a domestic aircraft industry able to capture “a winning position in the global market.”
