New Metal Treatment Process

European chemicals company Socomore has developed a process that seals metals after anodising without hexavalent chrome (CR VI), the use of which is set to be restricted in 2017 under EU regulation. The chromium compound is currently used in the aerospace sector in the treatment of metal surfaces, but under the REACH regulations will be forbidden from September 21, 2017 without authorisation from the European Chemicals Agency. Socomore has now launched two chemical bath treatment processes – one for conversion operations on aluminium and magnesium alloys and one for sealing operations after anodizing aluminium – that will ensure CR VI-free processes.
