CHEP Aerospace Solutions is conducting field trials of a GPS and GSM tracking solution for air cargo pallets. The tracking device installed on each pallet is connected to a solar panel and a customised power converter that charges on-board batteries. The trials will involve 50 unit loading devices – a technical term for cargo containers or pallets – on a range of aircraft. CHEP will test and validate the energy-harvesting component of the solution and will also conduct impact testing at its Orlando-based innovation centre to prove the solution's overall robustness. The new tracking solution incorporates OnAsset Intelligence's Sentry Flightsafe real-time data collection and GPS tracking technology.
