The aerostructures division of Saab has signed a deal with PacAvi to manufacture the main deck cargo door for the US-based engineering and conversion specialist’s A320 and A321 passenger-to-freighter (PTF) aircraft conversion programme.

Saab said it will also give support during the design phase of the project.

PacAvi CEO Stephan Hollmann said the deal marks the beginning of a “long-term strategic partnership to bring a new line of reliable, cost-effective and customisable freighter aircraft to the market”.

Pacavi began the PTF conversion on the A320 Freighter Lite prototype in January of this year at the Haitec facility in Frankfurt, Germany.

Pacavi and partner Gameco will commence conversion of the A321 Freighter LITE prototype in Q4 2015 at Gameco's facility in Guangzhou, China.
