South Africa's Aviation Finance Is On The Up

Finance within South Africa’s aviation sector is “clearly on the rise,” according to Boeing Capital’s senior director, Suzanne Raubenstine. “We are seeing an increasing regional financing presence into the aircraft sector,” Raubenstine told financiers at an event held last week by Boeing Capital Corporation in Johannesburg. “We’ve had banks there contribute to progress payment financing and also Export-Import Bank of the US export credit support. We’ve also seen new entrants into the aviation sector from public and private sector development finance institutions.” Boeing forecasts that Africa will require 900 aircraft worth $120m over the next decade, in part due to fuel prices and Africa’s need to modernise its fleet.
