Steady Cargo Growth But Regional Variations, Says IATA

Cargo growth is stabilising after recent months of slow but steady growth, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Its figures for September show that Freight Tonne Kilometers (FTK) grew by 0.5 per cent year-on-year. This is slower than the 3.4 per cent growth recorded for August, but overall air cargo volumes are at a 25-month high, the association said. However, regional variations are significant – Asia-Pacific airlines experienced a 3.1 per cent fall in cargo activity compared to the year-before period, while carriers in the Middle East reported 9.9 per cent growth.
