Avionics repair firm Thomas Global Systems has launched a “plug-and-play” LCD cockpit display unit as a replacement for the Rockwell Collins cathode ray tube (CRT) displays installed as standard in the 757 and 767.

According to Thomas Global Systems its TFD-7000 Series units are approximately 70 per cent lighter than the existing CRT modules and also generate less heat.

The systems have been designed as direct CRT-to-LCD retrofit requiring no additional rewiring or training for maintenance staff.

The unit is also ADS-B compliant and is currently awaiting EASA and FAA certification.

The launch of the 757 and 767 retrofit option comes after Thomas Global Systems received certification for its TFD-8601 LCD retrofit for regional aircraft, including the EMB 120 and Saab 340.
