US Passenger Traffic Drops 1.2 Per Cent

The US Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) has reported traffic figures showing a drop in passenger numbers of 1.2 per cent in February 2013, compared with the same period last year. The total number of passengers for February 2013 was 52.5m. This figure comprised a 1.5 per cent drop in domestic passengers, down to 45.7m, and a 0.7 per cent increase in international passengers to 6.8m. Delta Air Lines carried more system passengers than any other US airline, while Southwest carried the most domestic and United Airlines the most international passengers. Load factors topped previous highs set in February 2012, following year-to-capacity cuts (-3.2 per cent system-wide and -2.6 per cent domestically).
