A350 XWB Begins High Altitude Tests

Airbus’ A350 XWB development aircraft has arrived in Bolivia for a series of tests at the high altitude airfields of Cochabamba and La Paz. Cochabamba is around 8,300ft above sea level, and La Paz is one of the world’s highest airports at 13,300ft. High altitude airfields are particularly demanding on aircraft engines, the auxiliary power unit (APU) and systems. Therefore, the aim of the tests is to validate the full functionality of engines, systems, and materials as well as to assess the overall aircraft behaviour under these extreme conditions.
