US-based lessor Aerolease Aviation has entered into a definitive agreement with Mitsubishi Aircraft to buy 10 Mitsubishi Regional Jets (MRJ90s) with an option for an additional 10 of the aircraft.
The firming of the order follows on from a letter of intent signed at the Singapore Airshow in February this year. Deliveries of the Japan-manufactured aircraft are scheduled to begin in 2018.
Jep Thornton, a partner at Aerolease Aviation, said the firm is the first leasing specialist to sign a definitive agreement for the MRJ.
“The MRJ has an unmatched fuel efficiency, passenger comfort and environmental performance, which will provide new values of the regional jet to the market and customers,” he said.
With the Aerolease order in place, Mitsubishi Aircraft currently has 427 MRJs aircraft are on order, consisting of 233 firm commitments, 170 options and 24 purchase rights.
Another 20 are expected to be added to its order book when the OEM signs a definitive agreement with Swedish lessor Rockton.
