Airbus is considering increasing A320 production to more than 60 aircraft a month by Q1 2018 in order to meet growing demand.

The OEM’s chief operating officer John Leahy said on Thursday (May 28) that while Airbus had yet to commit to the target, anticipated demand already surpasses its existing production goal of 50 aircraft and could drive a production increase.

Airbus currently produces 42 aircraft a month but in February committed to upping this to 50 by Q1 2017.

A formal decision on the production hike is expected by the end of the year.
