The fragmented market for aircraft assembly systems has undergone a major bout of consolidation with the integration of Dürr’s aerospace business into fellow German company Broetje-Automation.

According to both companies, the merger will create the world’s largest supplier of aircraft assembly systems by combining Dürr’s conveyor, positioning and measuring products with Broetje-Automation’s drilling and riveting technologies.

Private equity-owned Broetje paid an undisclosed amount for the Dürr division, and the deal will also see the Dürr group take an 11 per cent stake in Broetje-Automation.
