Turboprop manufacturer ATR launched the test fight of an ATR 72-600 all electrical aircraft prototype on Friday (February 26) as part of the EU’s Clean Sky Joint Undertaking programme.

The Toulouse-based firm said the aim of the flight trial was to test the aircraft’s all electrical energy management system, while checks were also carried out on a new electrical air conditioning system.

The latest flight tests follow ATR’s first “green” flying demonstration of the Clean Sky programme in July 2015 with the same ATR 72-600 prototype aircraft.

Alessandro Amendola, ATR’s senior vice-president engineering, said helping develop and deploy new green technologies is “a key part of ATR’s identity”.
