AWAS has reaffirmed its commitment to the A350-900 (extra widebody) programme by changing its order for two A350-800s to the larger model.

The company was among the first lessors to place an order for the aircraft and is expected to take delivery of both A350-900s during 2017.

Airbus’ COO for customers, John Leahy, commented: “AWAS’ decision underlines the trend we are seeing across all market segments favouring larger aircraft models in all size categories.”

The A350-900 received certification from EASA on September 30 and the first aircraft is expected to be delivered to Qatar Airways before the end of the year.
