Boeing is in discussions with Iran Air over a potential deal to sell aircraft to the carrier, according to reports.

Reuters quoted the airline’s chairman Farhad Parvaresh as stating on Monday (June 6) that negotiations are taking place between the parties, which are also discussing the possibility of Boeing supporting the state-owned airline’s current fleet of mature aircraft.

However, Parvaresh warned Iran needed to resolve certain issues in order to meet requirements set out during last year’s lifting of sanctions by some Western countries for any deal to take place.

Should any deal go through, Boeing would join rival OEM Airbus in selling aircraft to Iran, with the European jet maker agreeing a $25bn deal in January for 118 aircraft.
