Brazil Certifies Embraer’s Legacy 500

Embraer’s newest business jet, the Legacy 500, has been granted type certification by the Brazilian Civil Aviation Agency. The eight-seat jet is powered by two Honeywell HTF7500E engines and is the first aircraft of its type to use digital flight controls based on fly-by-wire technology. The jet’s avionics are supplied by Rockwell Collins and provide the option for paperless operations. Embraer confirmed that it expects to receive certification from the FAA, followed by EASA, in the coming weeks. Delivery of the first Legacy 500 is set to take place next month and Embraer predicts it will assemble six aircraft before the end of the year, with production rates set to ramp up in 2015.
