Canadian Government To Decide On $1bn Bombardier Aid Deal

The Canadian government is set to decide in the coming weeks on whether it will give Bombardier $1bn in aid to boost its troubled CSeries programme.

The Canadian government is set to decide in the coming weeks on whether it will give Bombardier $1bn in aid to boost its troubled CSeries programme.

The further aid follows the Quebec government investing the same figure into Montreal-headquartered Bombardier last October.

Along with the Canadian government, the province has also urged the city of Ottawa to invest in the OEM to help protect regional aerospace jobs attached to the programme.

News of the when the Canadian government will make a decision ends speculation that it would confirm its intentions before the federal budget announcement on March 22.

Canada’s innovation minister Navdeep Bains told reporters in Toronto on Monday (March 14): “We've been very engaged with the company, we've been making sure we're doing our due diligence ... it is a very complex issue.”
