CSeries Gets CSeries Same Type Rating

Bombardier’s commercial aircraft division has been granted the same type rating (STR) by Transport Canada and EASA for both variants of the CSeries jet.

Bombardier’s commercial aircraft division has been granted the same type rating (STR) by Transport Canada and EASA for both variants of the CSeries jet.

The Canadian aircraft manufacturer said the approval for the CS100 and the CS300 will provide its operators with cost-saving opportunities and minimize the training required to transition pilots from one model to the other.

According to Todd Young, Bombardier’s vice-president and general manager, customer services, the commonality extends to potential cost savings in spare parts, maintenance procedures and ground handling.

Montreal-based Bombardier said the CS100 and CS300 aircraft feature more than 99 per cent parts commonality – a figure it says is the highest achieved by a manufacturer in the industry.
