Airbus is to work with DHL to move components used in A319s, A320s and A321s. Components from the Airbus production site in Hamburg will be transported to the company’s new final assembly line in Mobile, Alabama by air, sea and road by DHL Global Forwarding. Moving the parts presents a challenge because they must not be subject to abrupt movements and should remain on a flat surface at all times. Under the deal, DHL will ship the rear fuselage, forward fuselage, wings, along with the vertical and horizontal tail plane. From 2015, major components will be taken to Bremerhaven, Germany, for sea transport to Mobile where the journey to the final assembly line will continue on truck.
