Airbus has received EASA approval for an A330-300 with an extended maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 242 tonnes, up from 235t.

Airbus has received EASA approval for an A330-300 with an extended maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 242 tonnes, up from 235t.

Airbus claims that “aerodynamic refinements” and increased fuel capacity on the aircraft will give a greater range of up to 500 nautical miles and a two per cent reduction in fuel burn.

The OEM has also confirmed that the 242t A330’s structure is being used as the “basis for development” of the forthcoming A330neo.

Airbus said it expects certification for the 242t A330-300 from the FAA to follow soon and has confirmed that it plans on certifying a 242t A330-200 in future.

The initial EASA-certified A330-300 is powered by CF6-80E1 engines, with certification for PW4000 and Trent 700 powered aircraft to follow.
