Russia’s government has approved substantial new funding for the MC-21 (formerly known as the MS-21), the 160-seat narrowbody intended to compete with the A320 and 737, The Moscow Times reports.

The loan guarantees, of up to $400m, are to help manufacturer Irkut roll out a prototype for first flight next year. State-owned Sberbank will advance the loan as part of a 10-year fixed payment credit line worth more than $1bn.
