The new 15,795m² facility opened on Wednesday (October 15) and will manufacture a component for the forthcoming LEAP jet engine.

The facility will be the first in the world to mass produce engine components made of advanced ceramic matrix composite materials, according to GE.

The OEM said it expects to employ more than 340 people at the site within five years, while the existing workforce at its machining operation in the city will move to the components plant.
