Graphene Could Be Material Of The Future

New research into the mechanical performance of graphene reinforced carbon has shown the material could help to reduce aircraft weight.

The research, carried out by nanomaterial company Haydale with Cardiff University’s school of engineering, tested the material as part of the EU’s Clean Sky initiative.

Results showed that graphene-reinforced carbon composites are stronger and more resistant to compression than those without graphene.

The study could lead to the development of new light-weight composite structures, helping to cut CO2 emissions and fuel costs.
