French OEM Liebherr-Aerospace has secured a contract with Boeing to supply three components for the folding wingtip system on the 777X aircraft.

Under the contract Liebherr will design, manufacture and service the fold subsystem, latch pin actuator and the secondary lock actuator for the widebody at its site in Lindenburg, Germany.

The fold subsystem will reduce the 777X wingspan by 7.5m on the ground enabling the aircraft to use the same airport gates as the current 777 model, while benefiting from the improved fuel efficiency that the extended wing will offer in flight.
