An experimental hydrogen fuel cell designed to power airport ground support equipment has been demonstrated in Memphis. Plug Power is developing a zero-emission technology to power luggage and cargo transporters at airports. The US Department of Energy has supported the project with a $2.5m grant. During the demonstration the fuel cell prototype powered a Charlatte cargo tractor pulling 40,000lb in weight. Plug Power predicts a market for 60,000 hydrogen fuel cells at airports once the technology is fully developed.
