Powerful Year For CFM As LEAP Engine Orders Soar

CFM International (CFM) says it logged orders for 898 commercial, military and spare CFM56 engines and firm orders and commitments for more than 1,100 LEAP engines. This represents a combined value of $23.5bn at list prices. The engine manufacturer is experiencing its best production rates for the CFM56 line producing nearly 1,420 CFM56 engines last year in comparison to just over 1,300 in 2011 and 1,250 in 2010; the company aims to reach 1,700 engines per year by 2019 as it transitions from CFM56 to LEAP engine production. To date, CFM has logged total orders and commitments for more than 4,500 LEAP engines with the total of CFM56 engine orders standing at nearly 29,300 engines.
