Airbus said production has started on the first set of wings for the A350-1000 aircraft.

Assembly of the carbon fibre composite wing will take place at the OEM’s facility in Broughton, North Wales.

Airbus said the latest A350 wing has the same span of the A350-900, but 90 per cent of the wing parts have been modified with the trailing edge extended to resize the wing for the additional payload and range.

With 169 aircraft on order, the latest variant of the A350 is scheduled to enter service in 2017 through launch customer Qatar Airways.
