Qantas has placed an order with GE Aviation for the GEnx-1B engines to power the eight 787-9 aircraft it ordered from Boeing on Wednesday (August 20).

The deal, valued in excess of $400m at current list prices, will see Cincinnati, Ohio-headquartered GE deliver the first of the engines in 2017.

Chaker Chahrour, GE’s vice-president of global sales and marketing, said the deal represents another vote of confidence for the GEnx engine as the engine choice for 787s.
