Rolls-Royce has won a $1.5bn order from China Eastern Airlines for Trent 700 engines to power 15 A330 aircraft, in a deal which also includes long-term TotalCare engine support coverage.
The Shanghai-based carrier’s latest A330 order is in addition to the 51 Trent 700 powered A330s currently operating in its fleet.
Rolls-Royce said it has a market share of nearly 90 per cent for Trent 700-powered A330s.
Tang Bing, executive vice-president, China Eastern Airlines, said that the aircraft and engine combination is key to its expansion and competitiveness.
The airline also has orders for 20 A350s powered by UK-headquartered Rolls-Royce’s Trent XWB engine option.
