The president of Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) has said he expects the country to sign an intergovernmental agreement with China on the joint development of a widebody aircraft by the end of the year.

Yury Slyusar reportedly told China Daily that state-controlled UAC will join forces with Chinese OEM Comac to form a joint venture aimed at developing a widebody to attempt to compete with Boeing and Airbus.

The agreement would initially specify both parties’ responsibilities and profit share from the project.

“So far, the project has proceeded well, and we plan to determine the technical requirements, specifications and outsourcing methods in March,” added Slyusar.
