Swedish bearing and lubricant system supplier SKF is set to manufacture the mainshaft and gearbox bearings for CFM International’s LEAP engine programme.

SKF has developed ceramic hybrid mainshaft bearings for the LEAP which it says are lighter and will contribute to the fuel efficiency of the engine, which CFM claims will emit up to 16 per cent fewer carbon emissions than the CFM56.

The firm, which also runs four bearing MRO facilities, said it had been involved throughout the development of the LEAP sharing its knowledge in designing and testing of mainshaft and accessory gearbox bearings.
