Russian authorities have confirmed that the driver of a vehicle involved in a fatal crash at Vnukovo airport last night was drunk.

Shortly before midnight yesterday (October 20) a Falcon 50 aircraft crashed into a snow clearing machine on take-off, killing the CEO of French oil company Total Christophe de Margerie, who was the sole passenger, and the aircraft’s three crew.

Russian authorities have confirmed that main theories of a possible cause include errors by flight dispatchers and the snowplow driver.

The investigation team are also assessing reports of bad weather and whether pilot error was a contributing factor.

The authorities have also confirmed that they may suspend a number of staff from Vnukovo airport during the investigation.
